Low, brutal and unmistakably purpose-built, it represents an era when endurance racing produced some of the most extraordinary machines ever to touch a circuit.
At over half a meter long, this officially licensed 1:8 scale metal model gives you the chance to assemble that legend in a level of detail that deserves to be explored up close.
With over 300 pieces, this isn’t a quick snap-together build. The pre-painted components are assembled with screws, gradually bringing the 917KH’s engineering to life in your hands.
Open the doors, remove the front compartment, lift away the engine cover and there’s an incredible amount waiting underneath: a highly detailed engine bay, drivetrain, rear differential, metal suspension system, dual exhaust, chrome brake discs and more.
Even the steering functions, while wide racing rubber tyres and that enormous rear spoiler give the finished car its unmistakable stance.
The real Porsche 917 was developed in Germany and became the machine that delivered Porsche its first overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970, followed by another in 1971.
The short-tail 917KH became particularly legendary for its combination of enormous performance and high-speed stability, securing its place in the history of endurance racing and turning the 917 name into motorsport royalty.
This is the kind of model you’ll find yourself removing the bodywork from long after the build is finished, simply to look at everything underneath.
